St. George, Utah is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas anywhere in the United States. The population of the City had grown to nearly 64,201 as of 2005. The City is growing so rapidly that it is actually becoming somewhat of a problem. It is anticipated that 750 to 1000 new residents come to make St. George their home each month. Many of those moving to St. George are retirees who come here due to the mild winters.
As the population and commercial center of southern Utah, St. George was first settled by Mormon pioneers who came to this area to grow cotton. Known for its wonderful surroundings of red bluffs and high desert landscape, St. George is also the closest metropolitan area to Zion National Park. In addition to tourists, many retirees find St. George a great retirement destination.
