Dixie State College

Dixie State College is located at the heart of St. George, Utah. Offering ten bachelor degrees, five associate degrees, and many certificate programs, this higher education institution offers top-class academics, athletics, and arts for southern Utah. Dixie State offers the amenities of a big state school with community-based values that set it apart.

Opened in September, 1911, Dixie State was originally known as St. George Academy. The school housed high-school classes in addition to college level coursework. The creation of the school was catalyzed by Mormon elders and administrators from Salt Lake City, who recognized the need for a place of higher education in St. George. However, in 1933, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints discontinued support for the school as part of church-wide mission to move away from parochial schools in favor of state-supported ones.

Today, Dixie State offers four-year degrees in accounting, biology, business administration, communications, computer and information technology, criminal justice, elementary education, English, and nursing. Two-year degrees include associates of arts, science, science in business, pre-engineering, and science in criminal justice. Additionally, associate degrees in applied science and certificate programs are also granted.

Dixie State, home of the Rebels, has a vast offering of athletic programs and other extra-curricular activities. Student athletes compete in basketball, football, golf, cross-country, volleyball, soccer, tennis and cheerleading. Student-ran organizations such as Symphonic Band, Chamber Singers, Snowriders Club, and Rodeo Club are all part of the many-shaded fabric of Dixie State.
