Washington County

The people who live in Washington County Utah are proud of where they live. And why wouldn't they be. Located in southern Utah, Washington County is famous for its mild winter weather and fantastic red rock landscape. First settled as a place to grow cotton, the area has always been known as Utah's Dixie. Everyone is discovering Washington County. The population here has doubled in each of the last three decades.

Washington County is made up of communities that are interdependent and collaborate with one another to provide for long-term sustainability and preserve quality of life. The communities included in Washington County are Enterprise, Grafton, Gunlock, Hildale, Hurricane, Ivins, La Verkin, Leeds, New Harmony, Pine Valley, Rockville, St. George, Santa Clara, Silver Reef, Springdale, Toquerville, Veyo, Virgin, and Washington.

The entire county is governed by a Board of Commissioners. This three member Board is elected by the residents to steer the County. In addition, the government of Washington County also includes an assessor, an attorney, a building department, a county clerk, justice department, law enforcement department and various others. Some of the employees of the County are elected, while others are hired by the County Commissioners.

Visitors are drawn to the area to enjoy championship golf, tennis, walking paths, biking trails, hiking, warm, snow-free winters and year long low humidity. Many individuals, who visit, elect to make the area their home – at least during the winter months. Washington County has a large number of retirees and residents who call St. George and the surrounding area their winter home.

Washington County is the home to Snow Canyon State Park and Zion National Park. The County also has a modern convention center, a magnificent museum and a large performing arts theater. Home to Dixie State College, St. George offers all the amenities expected in a college town.
