The beautiful building, which now houses the St. George Art Museum, was originally used to store beet seeds by the Utah Idaho Sugar Company in 1934. However after 1979 when the building was no longer used as a storage facility, the structure was in shambles. Then the building was converted into a museum.
The building regained its former glory after the City officials remodeled the old building into a museum portraying works of art by eminent Utah artists. The museum exhibits paintings, ceramics, sculptures, drawings, photographs and different prints. There are about 340 items displayed here including art works by Maynard Dixon.
The St. George Art Museum organizes art exhibitions and theme events every year. Schools are encouraged to bring their students and conduct tours of the museum. The museum organizes art projects and activities for children. There is a store and Adult Study Center within its premises as well.
Admission fee is extremely nominal and on third Thursdays of every month, the admission fee is waived. The museum remains open for extended hours and discussions amongst eminent artists are arranged by the authorities.
If you are planning a visit, here's the address for you. The St. George Art Museum is located at 47 East 200 North St. George Utah-84770 and is open from Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm.
