Southwest Utah offers many outdoor activities for the family with many recreation activities. Both adults and kids can find adventure and simple natural fun in the Zion Park, Hurricane and Mt. Carmel areas. The possibilities range from inner tube rafting to horse back riding and four wheeling along with the usual camping and hiking all available in the Zion Park Area.
Many recreational choices for family fun are available in the Utah cities on both the east and western edges of Zion National Park just off Interstate 15 on US Highway 89 in Southern Utah. Springdale, Utah on the eastern boarder of Zion Park offers bike tours, jeep tours, rock climbing and guided hiking tours. One of the simple, fun and safe adventures offered in nearby Rockville and Hurricane, Utah on the Eastern edge of Zion Park is a short ride on inner tubes down the Virgin River's mild current. Easy to navigate and control, this tubing voyage puts the whole family right in the very well spring of Zion's canyons.
On the West end of Zion Park at the Junction of highway 9 about 3 miles from the park boundary, a herd of buffalo roaming a vast meadow can be seen from the highway. The Buffalo Grill at Zion Mountain Resort offers short, guided horse rides sharing the same meadow and trails as these home grown buffalo. Further down highway 9 at the junction with US 89, Mt. Carmel, Utah offers similar riding adventures as well as a beautiful, family friendly golf course. Any of these small towns can be a great central spot for a family summer vacation.The vast canyons of the Zion Park area provide the perfect playground for all of these outdoor activities.
