Hidden Canyon
Hidden Canyon is situated in Zion National Park, hidden away from plain sight. It was discovered by during the rescue of a climber and has since become a preferred spot for hikers and climbers alike. In fact, it is dotted with varied rock formations, including caves, and a cooling waterfall.
Whether one is wanting a hike or just looking for a tiny oasis that is hidden from the outside world, Zion National Park's Hidden Canyon offers all this and so much more. It is easily accessed via a short trail that leads hikers to some amazing rock formations, tiny caves and even a waterfall, during the right time of year.
Some of the interesting features of the canyon include a huge stone archway and a plant covered cliff wall. Other sandstone cliffs rise up over 100 ft, almost reaching the rim of the canyon. Hidden amongst the ridges and ledges, there are many caves that are fun to explore, though caution is necessary because some of them go deep within the rock face and many a hiker has been caught unawares by accidents, remaining lost for many hours or days.
The main trail begins close to little rock pools, winding deeper into a ravine that separates Great White Throne and Weeping Rock mountains. It follows the cliff edges closely and is generally wide enough for people to pass on, but the sheer drops are deadly. From there is ascends and descends fairly steeply. Then it reaches the canyon, where it is necessary to slide down a rocky buttress and switchback a few times before reaching more rocky pools, filled sometimes to overflowing with local frogs. The rest of the climb is fairly steep and dangerous, and most hikers never reach the highest point.
