Zion is a national park that is bound by law to charge specific fees and permits in order to maintain it, as well as account for safety and other issues. Most people may not be aware of this, but more information is readily available at the park's entrance and the visitor center.
These needed entrance charges and licenses are applied to anyone using the park's facilities, including the different means of transport utilized to get around it. More specific ones pertain to heavy vehicle escort services for going through tunnels and any use of the backcountry. These include tour vehicles, bicycles, cars, trucks, pick-ups and larger transport trucks. Pedestrians can obtain daily or even yearly passes that are good for any national park across the United States. Anyone considering overnight camping in the backcountry areas is also taken in account.
