Ranger Programs

A trip to Zion National Park is not complete with partaking in one of the free park ranger programs that so many tourists enjoy each year. Programs are varied. Discussions, talks, walks, rides and hikes are just a brief selection of what is on offer, with topics ranging from geology to history.

Park rangers are famous in Zion National Park for their many free activities and programs. They range from shuttle bus tours to major overnight hikes, attracting not only tourists, but eager school children. Others take up the opportunity for in-house tours in the lodge, museum or auditorium. In fact, they are recognized worldwide as being an absolute must when visiting the park.

Current programs can take place in so many locations. The amphitheater one includes slide shows at nearby campgrounds – animals, plants, the stars and even human history have been amongst the topics. These are also similar to those found in the museum as well as the park's auditorium. However, hiking or walking guided tours need to be booked well in advance due to their popularity. Some are just day trips and other involves overnight ventures.

The park also has adult classes and workshops covering the arts, humanities and sciences, all of which are run like tours with in the park. Programs include such topics geology, ants, wasps, bats, the park by moonlight, autumn colours and even wintertime photography. However, these are run by the park's field institution, mainly a research facility, which charges from $30 to almost $80 per tour.
